Miranda Remnek, head of collections for the Slavic and East European Library and professor of library administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been selected to be one of the first two recipients of the ASEEES (Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies) Committee on Libraries and Information Resources Distinguished Service Award. Remnek was recognized at the ASEEES National Convention on November 20, 2010.
Established this year, the award is intended to recognize ASEEES member librarians, archivists or curators whose contributions to the field of Slavic, East European and Eurasian studies librarianship have been especially noteworthy or influential. The effect of these contributions may be the result of continuous or distinguished service to the profession, but may also be the result of extraordinarily active, innovative or collaborative work that deserves national recognition.
The ASEEES Committee on Libraries and Information Resources (CLIR), consists of scholars and librarians in the fields of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies and works on a wide range of topics and ventures that include, but are not limited to: copyright, digital initiatives, microfilming projects, vendor issues, collection development, and the American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (ABSEES).
