Curator Named NCSA Fellow

Chatham Ewing, assistant professor and curator of special collections, in The Rare Book & Manuscript Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been named a 2009-2010 UIUC Faculty Fellow by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) .  Ewing’s project, Multi-Spectral Imaging and Analysis of Manuscript Materials, aims to test the potential for using multi-spectral imaging, digital analysis, and post-processing to uncover lost texts within the manuscripts holdings of The Rare Book & Manuscript Library. It will focus on two fourteenth-century palimpsest manuscripts and a set of twentieth century letter-books that may benefit from this sort of analysis.

Through NCSA’s UIUC Faculty Fellowship Program , faculty at Illinois can access and benefit from NCSA’s high-performance computing and storage environment, cutting-edge visualization and data analysis capabilities, and opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Ongoing problems with the catalog

Significant changes are being made to the catalog early this Friday, August 14 to address these problems.

The changes to the catalog may create problems with links from library web pages to items in the catalog. Some of the documentation and video tutorials available on the library web site relating to the catalog may not immediately reflect the changes that are being applied. If you are having problems accessing the catalog, try using the links on the Library Catalog page , or try VuFind, an alternative library catalog .
