Champaign Central High School Marching Band Visits the Sousa Archives Today

Members of the Central High School Marching Band playing “Shenandoah” on the Sousa Archives’ Civil War horns under the direction of Jennifer Currey during today’s visit.

Members of the Champaign Central High School Marching Band visited the Sousa Archives this morning and had an opportunity to play several of the Center’s Civil War era over-the-shoulder horns.  They also saw original manuscripts of John Philip Sousa’s early operettas and his famous “Liberty Bell March,” and were able to play James Beauchamp’s Harmonic Tone Generator.  A good time was had by everyone.  Special thanks to John and Jennifer Currey and Stephen Larson for bringing their talented students to the archives, and a very warm thank you to Mason Manint, a member of the University’s Marching Illini, and the rest of the wonderful Sousa Archives and University Bands staff for helping with today’s visit.
