Sousa Archives Receives New Addition to the Association of Concert Bands Records

Association of Concert Bands Journal Cover, Vol 33, No. 3. October 2014

The Sousa Archives received another addition to the Association of Concert Bands Records late last week which includes performance recordings, conference programs, correspondence, meeting minutes and business records, and copies of the Journal of the Association of Concert Band documenting the organization’s operation between 2011 and 2015.  The Association of Concert Bands of America (ACBA) was founded in August 1977 as a not-for-profit corporation and was later renamed the Association of Concert Bands (ACB).  Its members include bands, individuals and corporations who are uniquely dedicated and equipped to serve the needs of adult instrumental musicians who perform in and lead community bands.  The mission of the ACB is to encourage and foster adult concert community, municipal, and civic bands, and to promote the performance of the highest quality traditional and contemporary literature for band.  This new addition of records will be processed later this semester, and will be made available to researchers interested in the history of America’s community band movement.
