Sousa Archives Celebrations International Jazz Day

The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music will celebrate UNESCO’s International Jazz day in collaboration with Urbana-Champaign’s UNESCO Center for Global Citizenship, The Conservatory of Central Illinois, and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on April 26, 2016.  The first portion of this year’s celebration will take place at The Art Theater Co-op  starting at 5:30 with a special showing of historical film footage of performances by Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli with Yehudi Menuhin, Tito Puente, and Antônio Carlos Jobim and portions from the animated feature film, Chico and Rita.  An after-party celebration with music by Samba Soul performing Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, and vocals by Vivian Felicio will start at 7:00 at the Esquire Lounge.   The film showing and after-party performance are free and open to the general public.  For more information on this year’s celebration either email ucgc.champaign@gmail.com. or call the Sousa Archives at 217-333-4577.
