Illinois Summer Youth Music Middle School Trumpet and French Horn Studio Visits

It has been busy these past two days making music with the ISYM middle school trumpet and French horn studios who visited the Center to check out some of our music instrument collections.  Yesterday Joseph Goldstein brought both of his horn studios (I forgot to photograph the first group) to the Sousa Archives and we had a great time playing natural horns, French horns, and mellophones. We also had some time to check out some of the Center’s historical sound recording devices.  Today Kevin Kierspe and Jet Conway brought over their trumpet studios to play some of Herbert L. Clarke’s cornets, an over-the-shoulder saxhorn, four of Claude Gordon’s trumpets, a cornopean, two post horns, and five coach horns.  The students had a great time and we hope they return for more visits in the fall.   Special thanks to all of the ISYM teachers for the opportunity to work with each week’s students.
