The Map Library includes a number of unique, named collections which focus on specific types of cartographic materials or distinct areas of the world.
Eugene D. Derdeyn Map Collection
A collection of more than 500 manuscript and printed maps created by Eugene Derdeyn and the Perspecto Map Company. Derdeyn developed a unique, three-dimensional method of representing space and locations, highlighting the center and compressing peripheral areas.
James A. Bier Map Collection and Archives

Published and manuscript maps reflecting a nearly 70-year career in cartography. The maps and manuscripts in the collection demonstrate the art and science of cartography as practiced during the 20th century before the advent of computer cartography methods. This collection has a strong emphasis on maps and mapping of Hawaii and other Pacific islands.
Thomas J. Bassett Maps of Africa Collection

Historical maps of Africa spanning nearly four centuries (ca. 1550-early 1900s). The maps in the collection were produced primarily by European cartographers and reflect European attitudes and understanding of their times. Includes maps originally distributed in atlases as well as map separates.
