Our large paper cutting machine (popularly referred to as the "guillotine") can cut quantities of paper up to two inches thick.

Many international monographs do not have their pages cut open as part of the printing process. With our paper cutter, we slice off from 1/16 to 1/8 inches of the edges of each monograph so that its pages will turn freely.

Useful Tip: The exact height of the blade from the cutting surface is 2 and 5/16 inches. Occasionally we are asked to cut monographs which are thicker than this height. We have found that if we place such an over-sized monograph in one of the large book presses for a couple of days, we can compress the paper by 1/8 inches or so. This may be enough to allow us to squeeze it under the blade and cut the pages. What does not work well is to open the monograph to a middle page, put it under the blade and cut it while opened. Such a cut is rarely square once the monograph is closed.
