My name is Zachary Lindeman, and I have been a student employee at the Student Life and Culture Archives here on campus for the past four semesters. As a new employee my responsibilities were limited while I was learning how everything worked and functioned around the archives. I began by pulling and putting away boxes of materials for researchers, putting documents back into their proper boxes, and even shredding documents with restricted information on them that were no longer needed. Even though these tasks seemed straightforward and elementary, I was so glad to have done them because it helped me learn how important it was to be precise and organized while working with such delicate, informative materials. Twenty-five years ago, the Stewart S. Howe Foundation provided a million dollar endowment to establish the Student Life and Culture Archival Program at the University Archives. He was an avid collector of books and manuscripts about fraternity and student life and supporter of archives’ efforts- specifically those at the University of Illinois- in acquiring research-rich collections and historical resources. “Archives Blitz” at Yellowstone National Park

Written by Anna Trammell

Shortly after I began working at the Student Life and Culture Archives, I was notified that I had been selected, along with four other graduate students from across the country, to work on an archiving project at Yellowstone National Park called “Archives Blitz.” This project was conceived by archivists at Yellowstone who wanted to experiment with the rapid processing of archival materials in order to develop a framework that archivists at other cultural heritage institutions could adapt to fit their own needs.
