The IDEA Lab is a makerspace and technology-enriched collaboration area for UIUC affiliated patrons, including students, faculty, and staff. A valid i-Card or Illinois App is required for entry.
Reservations
Access by Appointment
Patrons can request access by appointment hours through our request form. The IDEA Lab reserves the right to prioritize appointments based upon available resources.

- Upon arrival, check in at the front desk. Patrons who reserve a space must be physically present and check in with their i-Card or Illinois App.
- Technology-rich spaces (3D Design Lab, Game Studies and Design Lab, Immersive Learning Lab, and Visualization Theater) must be reserved at least one business day in advance to allow for any necessary software installation and/or updates.
- The Pitch Room and Innovator Design Rooms accommodate same-day reservations.
- These are collaborative spaces suitable for group work or presentations.
Cancellations
Absence/leave of a space for more than 20 minutes will result in cancellation of the reservation. Repeated cancellations or unused bookings may result in limits on future space requests.
Space Use
Occupancy
Maximum occupancy must not be exceeded by order of the fire code. Innovator Design Rooms must have at least 2 occupants or the reservation will be canceled after 20 minutes.
Food & Drink
No food or drink is allowed in the IDEA Lab. Thank you for keeping our space clean and technology safe.
Lost & Found
Grainger Library is not responsible for any lost or damaged items. Unattended items left in a reserved space will be collected and delivered to Lost and Found at the Grainger Engineering Library Circulation Desk on the 1st floor.

Returns
Items must be returned to the IDEA Lab Help Desk, where they will be discharged after staff have received and processed all included components (e.g. charging cables).
Late Fees
Overdue fines are $15/day.
