
Use the links below to learn about and reserve a space. Spaces need to be reserved one business day ahead of desired time to be approved. Innovator Design Rooms are available for same-day reservations. To keep our technology and space clean, no food or drink is allowed in the IDEA Lab.


The Grainger IDEA Lab Commons is for large groups (up to 40 people), workshops, and meetings. This room includes portable white boards, mobile power pods, multiple large-format presentation screens, a high-definition projector and screen, and integrated room microphones, speakers, and webcams for in-person as well as hybrid sessions. A tech orientation is required prior to a reservation request. The Grainger IDEA Lab Commons is located in the center of the 2nd floor of the Grainger Engineering Library in rooms 233/235. The Pitch Room has a capacity of 4-8 people, fantastic for medium-size group presentations. Featuring lounge seating and an 84” wall-mounted display with A/V support equipment, accomplish your goals in this space. Reserve here.


The IDEA Lab has ten Innovator Design Rooms. These are small-group spaces for collaborative work. Each room has its own whiteboard and room for 2-5 people. Rooms 002-007 feature a table-mounted 42” display for mirroring one or more devices and six Extron switch cables (4 HDMI; 2 VGA). Reserve here.


The STEM/Business Consultation Room is a workspace dedicated to supporting entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary ideation. With a capacity of 8, two desktop computers, a whiteboard, a 58″ high-res touch display, and mobile table and chairs, this lab is especially useful for groups requiring a variety of technologies. The Usability Lab features a 58″ mobile workstation and high-res touch display, along with a desktop workspace with two monitors and multiple high-res webcams. This room also includes HP Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition and Oculus Rift S VR headsets. Reserve here.


The 3D Design Lab is the place for design learning with the room to do so. For medium-to-large groups, this space is technology rich. VR Headsets (Valve Index, HTC Vive Pro, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest & Quest 2, HoloLens 1 & 2) and desktop computers with software like Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier Pro) and Audacity allow students to learn and create. The 3D Digital Scholarship Lab fosters innovation in design learning and data analysis. This space is intended to be utilized by campus members who require cutting-edge technology to perform their work.
Reserving this space works differently than the others. Campus members reserve individual seats within the lab rather than the entire room. Reserve here.


The Discovery and Informatics Lab is an excellent conference room. The images above show the mini-visualization wall comprised of four 55″ monitors in the space. We also have four 65″ mobile touchscreen monitors with attached workstations and a large, 8-seat table. Reserve here.


The Immersive Learning Lab is a hugely popular space here at the IDEA Lab. Student organizations like the VR Club call this room home. The capacity of the ILL is 8. There are two 84” wall-mounted displays, and 8 individual workstations with high-end AlienWare. This room also includes VR Equipment (Valve Index, HTC Vive Pro, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest & Quest 2, HoloLens 1 & 2) and plenty of room to stand and play.

The Visualization Theater is the hallmark of the IDEA Lab. The space has a capacity of 12, lounge seating with attached desks, and an 8’x14’ wall of sixteen 46” monitors (true 8K resolution, powered by Windows 10 workstation with NVIDIA Quadro 6000 video card) with sound provided by JBL studio monitor speakers.
