Research Consultations

Grainger Engineering Library provides four types of one-on-one consultations with students, staff, and/or faculty. The consultations range from supporting undergraduate research to helping faculty build new courses! If you are unsure about what type of consultation to request, please contact the enginlib@library.illinois.edu for assistance

General Research Support

General research support is available year-round by request for all students, faculty and researchers affiliated with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This consultation should help you in your research by helping you develop search strategies, learn about subject-specific library databases, and other needed resources.

Undergraduate Students
expand

Find the librarian that most aligns with the research project you have in mind. You can find experts through the Subject Specialists Page on the library webpage by searching for the subject area of your research project. It is recommended that you know the general topics in your research project and prepare questions for the librarian you are meeting with. Please contact your subject specialist or enginlib@library.illinois.edu to book a research consultation with a librarian.

Graduate Students
expand

Please email enginlib@library.illinois.edu with specific topics and/or questions to address in your consultation, and a librarian will reach out to you. You should come out of this consultation with new search strategies, new library databases to explore, and higher confidence in your research project.

Accreditation Consultations

Accreditation consultations are for academic leaders and staff to keep their program accreditation or get a new accreditation for their academic program. Some accreditation bodies’ criteria for new/continuing accreditation need a library report or evidence of library support.
Please contact the enginlib@illinois.edu if you would like to book an accreditation consultation and prepare for the consultation by familiarizing yourself with your accreditation bodies’ criteria for library support.

Information Literacy Curriculum Development Consultations

These consultations are for faculty members at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Liaison librarians can help faculty build courses with information literacy in mind, provide library instruction, and design library assignments for students to learn more about the library. The Library Instruction Services page has more information about information literacy and services the UIUC library system provides for instructors.

Please contact the enginlib@illinois.edu if you would like to book an information literacy curriculum development consultation with any of our librarians.

Evidence Synthesis Consultations

These consultations are for students, faculty, and researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. These consultations are different than the research support consultations as evidence synthesis is a specific and standardized process to collect evidence for a research project. The library has created a comprehensive Evidence Synthesis Library Guide where you can learn more about evidence synthesis and if this process fits your research needs.

Please complete the Research Consultation Form to speak with a librarian about Systematic Review or Evidence Synthesis for your research project.
