Thirty-nine employees (31%) added optional comments to their responses. The major themes from these comments were:

  • Across all levels of awareness–Not Informed to Extremely Informed–those who provided comments conveyed some degree of uncertainty about events.
  • Employees indicate information overload from disparate processes and communication channels.
  • Impact to other units can take different shapes, from not being able to answer patron questions (i.e., I am unable to help patrons to the best of my ability because I didn’t know what was going on) to dealing with noise to uncertainty about their roles and expectations when events take place near their workspace.

Actions and outcomes

  • The Events Working Group will consider adding a prompt to the existing event request form about potential noise, odors, or other disruptions to support better communication.
  • This group will also explore ways for consolidating event information into a single calendar or location, and clarify intended audiences (e.g., employees only, public, or both).
  • Senior Administration continues to discuss and explore ideas informed by insights from pulse surveys.
