The Speaking Center offers free and personalized presentation and public speaking assistance to any student or group at any stage in the presentation preparation process and at any experience level.
The Speaking Center does not currently offer one-on-one consultations over the summer term. However, we are available for organized workshops or group consultations for our campus community! Contact us for more information.
What We Offer
- One-on-one consultations with a trained Speaking Consultant.
- Presentation and speaking workshops covering a variety of speaking skills.
Visit Us
- Schedule a consultation time using our calendar. Appointments are available in-person during Speaking Center hours. Scheduling a speaking consultation early is strongly recommended since it allows for time to edit and practice speeches and presentations. Consultations take place in Study Room 8 of the Main Library’s Orange Room.
- View and register for upcoming workshops and language conversation sessions by viewing our upcoming events. This is a constantly evolving calendar, so make sure to check back for new events to attend!

Meet Our Speaking Center Staff
Speaking Center Lead: Wallace Golding
Wallace Golding is a doctoral student in the Department of Communication, an award-winning instructor, and Lead Consultant at the Speaking Center, of which he is one of the founders. Wallace has taught courses in public speaking, debate, rhetorical theory, and persuasion. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in communication from the University of Illinois.
Undergraduate Consultant: Lina A.
Lina is a pre-med undergraduate student studying cognitive neuroscience with a minor in chemistry. She has participated in policy debate for 4 years, winning several speaking and team awards. Lina hopes to share the joy of crafting and performing speeches with others.
