The Main Library 220 Event Space or “The Corner” is a flexible use media presentation space outfitted with moveable furniture and can be arranged in a variety of configurations shown below. It features a large projector, four additional large monitors that can display simultaneous content, and a built-in PA system with wireless microphones and assisted listening devices.
Programs and events hosted in the space may be instructional or informational. It can be reserved by Library faculty and staff for presentations, meetings, receptions, discussion, and other gatherings.

General Policies
- For any questions about “The Corner” event space, please contact the Media Commons at mediacommons@illinois.edu.
- All reservations require a minimum of two weeks notice.
- Please note that your submission is a request for the space, though confirmation emails are sent automatically. You will be contacted by a Media Commons team member to coordinate and confirm your event request.
- All reservations require Library sponsorship. Requests made by individuals not affiliated with the University Library will be declined.
- Food and beverages are permitted in the event space. Reservations involving catering require submission of the facilities event checklist, linked below, prior to approval. Please email the completed form to mediacommons@illinois.edu. Requests that involve catering are tentative until both the Media Commons and Library Facilities approve the event request.
- Any additional set-up or decoration is the responsibility of the requestor, as well as clean-up of the space after the event.
Service Tiers
Note: The default setup of the Corner is 4-Top Pods (10 tables). Please look at the layout options below to find the configuration that will best suit your needs. Media Commons Staff can post signs and clear the event space in advance of the event time.
Tier 1 – Basic Instruction or Workshop
Tier 1 functionality is limited to the main projector via the Mersive Solstice device. Users can select “Basic Controls” via the touch screen and initiate the system.
- Tier 1 requests should be submitted a minimum of two weeks in advance of event date.
- Based on availability, an orientation of the space with Media Commons staff can be scheduled prior to the event.
- Instructor is responsible for moving and returning any furniture.
- General space food and drink policy applies.
- A sign adjacent to space will be posted prior to event.
Tier 2 – Full Space and Equipment Access
Use of the full set of media equipment within The Corner including all microphones and hybrid options. This tier of service will require availability of event space coordinator.
- We require a minimum of two weeks notice in advance of event date for this tier of service.
- Note: Hybrid functionality requires logging in and running the session from the dedicated computer in the 220 space.
- Use of full event space
- MC staff can modify layout to U-shaped, Boardroom, or Theater.
- General space food and drink policy applies.
- Signage will be posted in the space as well as by the Main Library 220 entrances.
Tier 3 – Large or Prominent Event
This would fall under any event that might involve catering and/or need for fully closing the entire Main Library 220 space.
Note: Library AUL approval needed before closing the entire Main Library 220 space and/or a large catering event.
- Requires a minimum of three weeks notice in advance of event date and a planning meeting with event coordinator.
- Tier III is for a large or prominent event with full attendance (30+ attendees), multiple presenters and feedback sessions.
- Any room 220 usage beyond the dedicated event space, up to the closure of the entirety of room 220
- Catered food and drink (coordinated through University Library Event Coordinator)
- Prominent signage will be posted in the event space and by 220 entrances.
Podium
Contact Library Facilities to reserve the Library podium for use in The Corner. Please note: Library podium’s built in microphone does not directly connect to the space in-house audio, presenters will need to use the wireless microphone.

10 rectangular tables measuring 6’ x 2’ each. Each table fits four chairs.

U-Shaped
Capacity: 20

One long table, approximately 12×4, and chairs around the outer edge.

Theater
Capacity: 40
Tables removed from space and chairs remain.
