Unit: Ricker Library of Architecture and Art
Location: 208 Architecture Building, 608 East Lorado Taft Drive, Champaign IL 61820
Supervisor: Tim Hayden, Library Specialist
Number of Openings: 2-3
Hours per week anticipated: 8-10
Hourly Rate: $15.00
Anticipated Start Date: August 17, 2026
Schedule: Flexible pre-established schedule within the regular hours of operation, Sunday 1-7 pm, Monday-Thursday 12-7 pm, Friday 12-5 pm
Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated: Fall 2026, with potential to continue employment for consecutive academic term(s).
Summary: This position is responsible for various Circulation Assistant and Stacks Maintenance duties each shift as detailed below.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Covering the Circulation Desk
- Check out books to patrons, communicating relevant policies (such as due date)
- Check in books returning to the Library
- Provide basic research assistance to patrons
- Answer the phone
- Library monitoring
- Light cleaning and sanitizing of high traffic areas
- Record hourly gate and patron counts
- Provide basic technology assistance to patrons
- Collection Maintenance
- Shelving
- Shelf reading
- Retrieving and processing patron requests
- Special projects as assigned by staff
Required Qualifications
- Punctual and dependable
- A positive attitude
- Excellent customer service skills
- Attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to read and understand bibliographic records and library call numbers.
- Ability to stand, push a book cart, and reach high or low shelves
- Ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
- General familiarity with libraries
- Previous work or volunteer experience
- Anticipated graduation date of May 2029 or later
