Undergraduate Hourly positions are open to enrolled University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Undergraduate Students only.

Hours per week anticipated: 10
Hourly Rate: $16.00

Schedule: Flexible pre-established schedule within the University Archives’ regular hours of operation, Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated: Mid-April 2026 through August 2026, with potential to continue employment for consecutive academic term(s).

Summary
The Math Library in collaboration with the University Archives are seeking an undergraduate student to assist with creating a digital profile and exhibits about Mathematics Innovations from the University of Illinois.

The Illinois Distributed Museum (IDM) is a virtual museum of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign that curates, preserves, and highlights the University’s rich history of innovation for future generations. Reporting to the Head of the Mathematics Library, the undergraduate student will assist the Mathematics Librarian and IDM Coordinator with archival research using primary and secondary sources, develop written content for a general audience, and help select items to be featured in exhibits.

Training
Paid training will be provided at the start of the appointment, with additional training offered through a mentorship model. Training will cover basic archival and museum practices and theories, as well as best practices for digital exhibit development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Research using archival documents, primary and secondary sources, and online resources
  • Write and explain Mathematics Innovations for a general audience
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled as an Undergraduate Student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the Academic Terms of Employment listed above
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced coursework or knowledge in Mathematics or related fields
