Graduate Hourly – Night and Weekend Supervisor – Ricker Library of Architecture and Art - General Information

Graduate Hourly positions are open to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Graduate Students only.

Location: 208 Architecture Building, 608 East Lorado Taft Drive, Champaign IL 61820
Supervisor: Nicolette Coleman, Senior Library Specialist
Number of Openings: 2
Hours per week anticipated: 8-10
Hourly Rate: $22.00
Anticipated Start Date: August 17, 2026
Schedule: Flexible pre-established schedule within the following hours: Sunday 1-7 pm, Monday-Thursday 5-7 pm, Monday-Friday 10:30am-12:30pm
Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated: 2026-2027 Academic Year, with potential to continue employment for consecutive academic terms

Summary
Ricker Library Night and Weekend Supervisors provide supervisory support to student workers during the library’s evening weekly hours and on Sundays.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Night supervisors will be required to make decisions and conduct actions in the absence of librarians or civil service staff, in accordance with established policies and procedures. This encompasses circulation-related troubleshooting as well as patron-related situations that may occur
  • Supervising undergraduate student staff
  • Answering reference and directional questions
  • Collection maintenance tasks
  • Materials processing and bibliographic searching
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Enrolled as Graduate Student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the Academic Terms of Employment listed above. School of Information Sciences or related discipline preferred.
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills, and evidence of ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Have a sincere interest to work with and supervise undergraduate students
  • Must be available to work evening and Sunday hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer service experience
  • Experience working in libraries
  • Art, Design, or Architecture background or interest
  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal classification system
  • Knowledge of Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE platforms
