Reserve a Room in the IDEA Lab

Use the links below to learn about and reserve a space. Patrons who reserve a space must be physically present and check in at the IDEA Lab Help Desk with their i-Card. For information on library study spaces on campus, visit the Study Spaces Throughout the University Library page. During weekend walk-in hours, the IDEA Lab provides Open PC Gaming in the Immersive Learning Lab; all other technology-rich spaces will be closed from reservations. The following spaces are available for same-day reservations:


The Pitch Room (0001)

The Pitch Room has a capacity of 4-10 people and is suitable for medium-size group presentations. The space provides lounge seating and an 84” wall-mounted display with A/V support equipment. Reserve this space.

Innovator Design Rooms (002-007)

The IDEA Lab has ten Innovator Design Rooms (rooms 002-007). These small-group spaces have a capacity of 2-5 people, and a minimum of 2 people are required to reserve and use the space. Each room features one whiteboard and one table-mounted 42” display for mirroring one or more devices with a wireless connection. Reserve this space.

3D Design Lab (000E)

The 3D Design Lab is for small working groups with a capacity for 1-3 people per booked seat for experimentation and development support for 3D graphics, 3D modeling, gaming, VR/AR experiences and other 3D content. This space includes VR headsets, support equipment and workstations equipped with Visual Studio, Unreal and Unity Engines and other design software.

Campus members reserve individual seats within the lab rather than the entire room. Reserve a seat.

Game Studies & Design Lab (000I)

Game Studies and Design Lab for work on development of gaming concepts, systems and entertainment. Space is limited as we defer to fire safety guidelines. Campus members can reserve the entire room and access both seats which includes access to the Playstation 5, PS VR2, Nintendo Switch 2, and the Mini Visualization screen. The Nintendo Switch was moved to the waiting lounge. Reserve this space.

Immersive Learning Lab (000J)

The Immersive Learning Lab is for large group (12-15 people) workshops, course labs, RSOs, campus eSports,equipped with high-end Alienware R12 Aurora workstations for development, gaming, VR-content, and an instructor station that casts to two 84” wall-mounted displays. Illini Esports and the VR Club at UIUC use this space for scrimmages and events.

  • Available Saturdays and Sundays during walk-in hours: 1 pm to 10 pm
  • IDEA Lab provides PC workstations with the following pre-installed game clients: Steam, Battlenet, Oculus VR
  • Patrons will login into their own accounts
  • Seating is limited and based on a first-come first-served basis
  • Technology support is not available; Please inform the IDEA Lab Help Desk of any tech issues

Visualization Theater (000K)

The Visualization Theater is for large group (12-15 people) presentation and viewing of educational or academic audio/video content on the 8’x14’ 8K display wall, equipped with teleconferencing devices, and lounge seating with attached desks

  • The Wall is comprised of 16 46” monitors
  • 7,680 by 4,320 pixel, true 8K,  resolution
  • Powered by a high-end Windows 10 workstation with NVIDIA Quadro 6000 video card
  • Equipped with JBL studio monitor speakers

During unreserved periods, the Theater is open as a Curated Study Space with first-come, first-served seating. Reserve this space.
