Description

The Ask a Librarian service is a chat-based reference tool that connects patrons to librarians through instant message.

When is this service available

Ask a Librarian operates whenever the reference libraries are open.  For specific hours, see the Ask a Librarian service on the Library’s Website.

Priority level for this service

Library IT will respond to problems with Ask a Librarian during hours when the service is scheduled to be available according to the Library Hours page.  Problems that require in-depth troubleshooting may not be responded to until the next business day.

How to report a problem

Patrons should report problems to the Information Desk by calling (217) 333-2291.  If the Information Desk can replicate and verify the issue, they will report the problem to IT by calling the Library IT Help Desk at (217) 244-4688.

Who can use this service

Ask a Librarian is a free service primarily intended for U of I affiliates.  The service will also answers questions from non-affiliates about U of I Library collections and services, and questions related to Government Information.
