Attendees: John Wilkin (Chair), Mara Thacker (Vice-Chair), Bill Maher, Peg Burnette, Dan Tracy, Mary Laskowski, Joe Lenkart, Chris Wiley and Kelli Trei. Lucretia Williams recording.

 

Meeting Documents: N/A

 

1. Minutes – The October 25, 2021 EC meeting minutes were approved with minor corrections upon the motion by Bill Maher and second by Kelli Trei.

 

2. Question Time – Dean Wilkin updated EC on the following –

 

• EC conferred on proper protocol for communicating EC discussions outside of the agenda.

 

3. Academic Program Review External Reviewers – Dean Wilkin updated EC on the Academic Program Review External Reviewers along with their credentials.

 

4. Grainger Head Search Committee – EC appointed additional members to serve on the Head, Grainger Search Committee. Lucretia Williams will reach out to the appointed to see if they are willing to serve and then report back to EC and set up the kick-off meeting.

 

5. Discussion Topics for next week EC AULs/Directors – Topics were suggested for the AULs/Directors to discuss at the next EC meeting on Monday, November 8, 2021. Lucretia Williams will reach out to the AULs/Directors with the topics suggested by EC.

 

6. PRC Assignments – EC recommended faculty to serve as PRC members for new faculty. Lucretia Williams will reach out to those appointed and report back to EC.

 

7. Task Force on Research Support Next Steps –

• Diversity and Recruitment – Victor Jones is working industriously to bring something to EC around a proposed residency program before the end of the calendar year. It has two components: an immediate advisory process followed by an ongoing group to aid him in managing the residency process.

 

There has been a lot of interest in improving our search process. Susan Breakenridge had several suggestions and has since pulled together an active subgroup to look at the search process, including several items that align with the recommendations from the task force. That group also met with the DEIA Task Force, which is working on related issues, and the joint group discussed ways to avoid recreating the same work.

 

Both Victor Jones and Susan Breakenridge will be invited to a future EC meeting for further discussions on Diversity and Recruitment.

• Other recommendations: a document summarizing the recommendations from the prior task force is available and EC should review it and track suggested priorities for a future meeting.

 

• Additional EC item – EC discussed further recommended changes to the proposed Teaching and Learning Task Force document and returned some specific recommendations for revision.
