Undergraduate Hourly positions are open to enrolled University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Undergraduate Students only.
Unit: Communications Library
Location: Communications Library, 122 (Gregory Hall, 810 S Wright St, Urbana, IL 61801)
Supervisor{s): Claire Hutchinson & Christina Nichols, Library Specialists
Number of Openings: 1
Hourly Rate: $15
Anticipated Start Date: ASAP
Hours per week anticipated: 6-10 hours/week average
Schedule:
- Evening- 1 shift/week (Mon through Thurs 5 – 8:30pm or 8:30pm – midnight)
- Weekend – 6 to 7 weekend shifts/semester
- Daytime – hours vary; 1-3 hr shifts working around class schedules
Summary: Day, Night, and Weekend hours are available at University Communications Library. You will be trained in answering basic reference questions, circulation, and overseeing the library night and weekend hours. Tasks include loaning/returning materials, assisting with stack maintenance projects, shelving books, answering phone calls, helping with library technology, etc.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Loans/Returns, renew, and call slips
- Answering phone and taking messages
- Basic reference/OPAC use instruction
- Locating and retrieving items for patrons
- Assisting in Maintenance of materials
- Weeding out books for hold
- Observing and enforcing library rules/regulations
- Light dusting & cleaning
- Other duties as assigned
Required:
- Currently enrolled as an Undergraduate Student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- Must be available to work schedule as outline above, including nights and weekends
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
Preferred:
- Prior Customer Service experience
- Prior experience working within Microsoft Office Suite
