Hours per week anticipated: 5
Hourly Rate: $24.00
Anticipated Start Date: 8/31/2026
Schedule: Flexible pre-established schedule within the hours of Monday-Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm  
Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated: Academic Year 2026-2027 (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters

Summary

International and Area Studies Library’s Graduate Hourly employee for Chinese Studies

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Organize and promote Chinese Studies and East Asian Studies activities and events,
  • Maintain online research guides and webpage for Chinese Studies,
  • Check and transit gift collections for Chinese language materials, and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled as Graduate Student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the Academic Terms of Employment listed above
  • Strong academic-level reading proficiency in both simplified and traditional Chinese,
  • Proficiency in the Pinyin romanization system,
  • Ability to comprehend the Wade–Giles system using auxiliary tools and accurately convert Wade–Giles transliterations into the Pinyin system,
  • Academic and professional fluency in English, and
  • Academic-level understanding of Chinese history and culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full professional fluency in spoken and written Chinese,
  • Prior experience or relevant coursework in Library and Information Science, and
  • Familiarity with Digital Humanities tools.
