Summary
International and Area Studies Library’s Graduate Hourly employee for Chinese Studies
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and promote Chinese Studies and East Asian Studies activities and events,
- Maintain online research guides and webpage for Chinese Studies,
- Check and transit gift collections for Chinese language materials, and
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled as Graduate Student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the Academic Terms of Employment listed above
- Strong academic-level reading proficiency in both simplified and traditional Chinese,
- Proficiency in the Pinyin romanization system,
- Ability to comprehend the Wade–Giles system using auxiliary tools and accurately convert Wade–Giles transliterations into the Pinyin system,
- Academic and professional fluency in English, and
- Academic-level understanding of Chinese history and culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Full professional fluency in spoken and written Chinese,
- Prior experience or relevant coursework in Library and Information Science, and
- Familiarity with Digital Humanities tools.
