Pre-Professional Graduate Assistantship – Funk ACES Library - General Information

The Funk ACES Library (https://www.library.illinois.edu/funkaces/) has two 50% (20hrs/week) Graduate Assistant positions from August 16, 2026 – May 15, 2027, with a possibility for continuation for the next year.

The Funk ACES Library is a modern facility that provides a very nice working environment.  The library supports numerous units on campus, including the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES); the schools of Integrative Biology, and Molecular and Cellular Biology; the departments of Urban and Regional Planning, and Landscape Architecture; the Prairie Research Institute; and the Institute for Genomic Biology.  The Funk ACES Library also attracts patrons beyond these subject areas.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced-level public service at the Funk ACES Library information desk
  • Provide reference assistance, including in-person, phone, email and chat
  • Create and maintain web resources
  • Participate in Funk ACES Library social media initiatives
  • Contribute to a variety of other projects throughout the school year, such as collection management, exhibits and digitization, depending on experience and interests
  • Serve as the primary building supervisor during weekend and evening hours
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Evening and weekend hours are required

Required Qualifications: Enrollment in the iSchool MSLIS program; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to interact positively with a wide range of library users

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced computer skills; graduate education experience and/or a background in a science, agriculture, business, or applied social science discipline.
