Unit: Collection Management Services – Oak Street Library
Location: Headquartered in Main Library 1408 W. Gregory St, project work may be at multiple Library locations on campus
Supervisor: Melanie Rusk, Library Operations Associate
Number of Openings: Multiple
Hourly Rate: $15
Anticipated Start Date: Between March 30-April 6
Hours per week anticipated: Range from 10-25
Schedule: Must be able to work shifts between 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Preference will be given to those who are also available to work during the summer.
Summary: Collection Management Services (CMS) is responsible for several ongoing functions within the University Library including the operation of the Oak Street Library. Additionally, CMS is central to the Library’s participation in two major endeavors with the Big Ten Academic Alliance: the Google Book Search Project and the Shared Print Repository. Undergraduate hourly employees may assist with CMS- Oak Street Library in various functions as directed including receiving and processing gifts of books to the Library, transferring materials to the Oak Street Library from other libraries across campus, and assisting libraries with CMS projects such as transfers, moving their collections, or cataloging backlogs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pulling books for various CMS projects
- Boxing books
- Moving library collections from one space to another
- Other duties as assigned
Required:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for Spring 2026
- Ability to work independently and to stay on task
- Attention to detail
- Ability to load and push full carts of books
- Ability to stand and squat/kneel for extended periods of time
