Courtesy Card Eligibility
Visitors, affiliates, community users, and others, may be eligible to apply for a U of I Urbana campus courtesy card, which will let you borrow books from the Library. Visitors from other academic institutions may be eligible for a courtesy card under an existing reciprocal borrowing agreement with other institutions. See the Courtesy Card information page for instructions on how to apply for a courtesy card. (Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.)
- LH courtesy card – Visitors who are scholars sponsored by an academic department; Members of U of I President’s Council; Holders of Big 10 Academic Alliance ID Card; OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program Card holders from in state or surrounding states; members of Allied Agencies and K-12 Illinois teachers with proof of current employment
- LL courtesy card – Non-Urbana campus affiliated state of Illinois residents with valid ID; persons holding Urbana campus Spouse IDs; U of I alumni living in Illinois; Non-registered Urbana campus doctoral students living in Illinois; Extra Help workers and Research Park Employees; K-12 Illinois substitute teachers
- LB courtesy card – Non-Urbana campus affiliated persons residing outside the state of Illinois with valid ID

The following Library privileges are extended to current Urbana campus LH courtesy card holders with library accounts in good standing.
- Bookstacks access with current courtesy card
- Online catalog requesting privileges – Urbana campus only (excluding residence hall libraries). Must be at least 18 years old.
- Maximum items borrowed – 100
- Loan periods
- Books – 4 weeks
- Periodicals – Building use only
- Renewal limits – 10 renewals (for most books)
- Fines and fees
- Fines are charged for overdue recalls, reserves and media.
- Replacement charges and processing fees are charged for items considered lost (35 days overdue for most books).
LL Courtesy User
The following Library privileges are extended to current University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign LL courtesy card holders with library accounts in good standing.
- Online catalog requesting privileges – Urbana campus only (excluding residence hall libraries). Must be at least 18 years old.
- Maximum items borrowed – 25
- Loan periods
- Books – 4 weeks
- Periodicals – Building use only
- Renewal limits – 5 renewals (for most books)
- Fines and fees
- Fines are charged for overdue recalls, reserves and media.
- Replacement charges and processing fees are charged for items considered lost (35 days overdue for most books).
LB Courtesy User
The following Library privileges are extended to current Urbana campus LB courtesy card holders with library accounts in good standing.
Proper ID may be needed to use material on site. You may wish to call in advance to make certain the material you need is available.
- Online catalog requesting privileges – Urbana campus only (excluding residence hall libraries). Must be at least 18 years old.
- Maximum items borrowed – 4
- Loan periods – Building use only
- Renewal limits – No renewals
- Fines and fees
- Fines are charged for overdue recalls, reserves and media.
- Replacement charges and processing fees are charged for items considered lost (35 days overdue for most books).
