AlmaSet2Analytics procedure

source webpage (use to create xml file for new analysis)

Windows explorer

C:\queries\AlmaSet2Analytics
(first xml file and txt listed in the python command below must be in the folder)

create a text file containing the identifiers and the correct heading for the prompted field (see the example commands below)–maximum of 64k identifiers

if exporting xml from Alma analytics:

  • open the exported csv file in Notepad++
  • copy and paste into a new tab in Notepad++
  • make sure there is a correct heading
  • save as .txt with the correct filename

(as needed, update the first xml filename, and the heading of the relevant field from the csv file–heading case matters)

  • python almaset2analytics.py pretty_from_barcodes.xml -f barcodes.txt -c “Barcode” -o report_output.xml
  • python almaset2analytics.py deduplication_from_mms.xml -f mms.txt -c “MMS Id” -o report_output.xml
  • python almaset2analytics.py google_ingest.xml -f barcodes.txt -c “Barcode” -o report_output.xml

 

Alma analytics

open a new analysis

in the Advanced tab, replace the xml with the contents of report_output.xml

Apply XML

in the Results tab, select Export –> Data –> Tab delimited Format

save as a.csv, etc.

 

Excel

open a blank excel file (or existing file, if multiple files of identifiers)

save as alma ingest.xlsx on desktop, or as appropriate

Get Data from Text

browse to working.csv

choose Text for all fields unless there is a date field

save

 

repeat entire sequence as needed

if there were multiple files, deduplicate using identifier
