Minutes Details

Minutes

  1. 10:30-11:00am – Ideas for Programming/Activities for Room 220 (Elisandro Cabada)
    • Elisandro is on two sub-groups to help transition Main Library Room 220 into a multi-use space. One sub-group is focused on technology, like collaboration tables, large monitors, and digital signage.  The other sub-group is focused on events or activities that could be held in Room 220, and he came to hear ideas that LDS members have for the space.  We said that some events we would want to have in Funk ACES, but here are the ideas shared for Room 220 – panel discussions, BHL-related discussion, RSO events, find your superhero/librarian, seminars/meetings of student chapters of professional associations/organizations, invited speakers (e.g., book talks related to One Book One Campus), peer tutoring, live podcasts, the annual Library Retreat, and flu shots.
  2. Approval of 5/8 minutes (taken by Kelli)
    • Minutes approved without edits

  3. Committee assignments and reports – AC, CDC, others
    • AC (Kelli) – Heidi talked about how to learn what subject specialists are doing related to research services and how to make subject specialists aware of services available.
    • CDC (Sarah) – At the last meeting, the committee was reminded about the shortened calendar for ordering this fiscal year; a desiderata working group was discussed; we discussed book jackets; and we had an initial discussion about the OCLC/BTAA “collective collections” report.
    • Library Strategic Planning Committee (Erin) – The committee’s work is complete. John shared the finalized 2019-2023 plan via LibNews on 8/27/19.
    • Assessment (Peg) – Latest meeting was a brainstorming/introductory meeting.
    • Reference Management Team (Kelli) – Work continues on the subject specialist list for website
  1. Round Table
    • The Health Sciences Librarians of Illinois conference is this Thursday and Friday at the iHotel; Peg and Erin are attending.
    • As announced at the Library Quarterly Update and the fall all unit heads meeting, Dean Wilkin negotiated, as part of his reappointment, for $500,000 in permanent funds (for FY2020, and another $500,000 for FY2021) for new positions – faculty, AP, or civil service. A position proposal template will be coming out soon, and proposals will be due very soon, so that positions can be prioritized and filled as soon as possible.
    • The Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Agriculture Librarian search continues. The committee has started reviewing the applications received by the initial August 30th close date, but the position is still posted, in case additional applications are submitted.
    • UIC Library of the Health Sciences, Urbana – This school year the students have been taking advantage of the collection in Grainger and Ryan’s expertise. Ryan is still serving as the interim collection development coordinator for all of the UIC Libraries of the Health Sciences, and he foresees some cancellations this year.
    • Library Website news – PRI Librarian will be added as a Funk ACES sub-unit of on the Main Library website, and Susan figured out the login information for the CPLA LibGuides.
    • Also announced at the Quarterly Library Update, a Data Science Librarian position will be filled, but it is still uncertain where it will be based.
    • This year is the 125th anniversary of the Illinois State Water Survey.
    • Janis will be attending a Minnesota Library Association meeting next week.
