1. Budget Update – KaufmanThe budget group is meeting today at 4:00pm to discuss general strategies for filling jobs, etc., major steps to take in response to the AC/EC meeting and the suggestions made there as well as suggestions made by staff.  The group will also determine the process for to deal with urgent budget requests.  Paula requests that Division heads let their staff know that she is not to be lobbied.

   The AULs and Paula will meet the entire morning of July 2 to look at ideas and develop some short-term strategies.

2. Oak Street – Burger, Clark, Kruger, K. SchmidtWe have a 50% bid document.  The next set will be 95% and we should receive them in two to three weeks.  Everything is on target to open next summer.

   The first load of shelving in faux Oak Street (Hort Field Lab) will be delivered in the next one-to-two weeks.

   The volume capacity of Faux Oak Street will be approximately 200,000 volumes max.

   Faux Oak Street will last until the volumes processed for that location are moved to real Oak Street.

   Maps will not go in the first phase because of the cost of the cases and because the layout is not set yet.

   Once Faux Oak is set up there is an interface between Voyager and the inventory software.  This will enable circulation from Faux Oak just like from any other departmental location.  Items requested then interact with the inventory system to produce a pick list.

   500 serial titles that were identified by selectors are ready to go to faux Oak Street.  A SWATT team consisting of five grad students each supervising ten undergraduate students all working thirty hours a week streamering volumes that have not circulated in twenty years and in some cases ten.  In the first three days they streamered 15,000.

   A proposal to change the existing Oak Street protocol was submitted by Area Studies, Social Sciences, and Arts & Humanities divisions.  The first five points of the proposed changes were accepted.  The sixth is still unresolved.

3. Public Access – Sandore, WeibleUnauthenticated email has been disabled on our public machines since 1998.  However, our users still have unauthenticated access to the entire World Wide Web in the Library.  Users can (and do) exploit a number of open web sites to anonymously generate harassing messages and perhaps perform other illegal activities.

   The question is what type of access to the Library and other resources we want to provide, while protecting against the possibility of someone sending harassing email.  Some possibilities are a) full authentication-requiring users to supply netid and a password for access to full complement of Library, Web, and email resources; b) restricted guest mode – unauthenticated access, but limited resources; or c) unaffiliated but occasional/frequent intensive users be given some type of Library-monitored password that the Library would be required to track.

   Beth and her group will draft a policy and bring it back to AC.

4. Main Library Office Space – ClarkBart provided a layout of the third and fourth floors of the Library with possible office space.  Those rooms include 301, 319, 426, 427, and 434.  Office space is at a premium in the Library and some new library faculty have been promised offices as part of their hire package.  In the long-term there will be more space, but short-term we will have to use what’s available.
5. Proposed 2002/03 Calendar – Nancy O’BrienIt was proposed that a committee be set up to review schedules for individual libraries.  Bob Burger will spearhead that committee and bring recommendations back to AC.
