LSSC Elections:

We are pleased to announce that Kyle McCafferty from Central Access Services and Julie Bumpus from Technical Services are joining the Library Staff Support Committee for the next two-year term.  Kyle will join Dani Postula as a liaison from CAS and Julie B. will replace Julie Watkins, who has faithfully served on the committee for multiple terms.  Thanks so much, Julie W., for all your years of service to the committee!

Upcoming Brownbag Session with ALA Staff Attendees:

Alex Bragg and Julie Bumpus shared lots of information, ideas, and giveaways from ALA in Las Vegas this summer.  The brownbag session was pretty well attended.  Thanks to everyone who came to it!

New microwave in Main Library staff break room:

University Librarian John Wilkin quickly approved LSSC’s request for funding for a new microwave in the staff break room on the 4th floor of the Main Library, after the old microwave had suddenly stopped working.  The new microwave has been installed.  Thank you very much to John!  It would be much appreciated if everyone who uses the microwave makes sure it is clean after using it.

LSSC meeting schedule:

Jim has reserved Room 225B of the Main Library for our meetings the second Thursday of each month from 9 to 10:30 a.m. through July 2015.  He will check with Sandy to make sure that our meeting schedule is up-to-date on our website.

Division reports:

Special Collections:  Jim reported the Special Collections Division had been busy planning orientation for new Graduate Assistants as well as Public Relations outreach at the Urbana Sweet Corn Fest on August 22nd and 23rd.

International Area Studies Division:  Lisa Renee reported that the International Area Studies Division had annual training rather than a meeting in July.

Residence Hall Libraries:   Laura reported that the Residence Hall Libraries would soon be re-opening their six Urbana locations for the fall semester.  Hours at these locations (Allen, Busey-Evans, Florida Avenue Residence Hall, Illinois Street Residence Hall, Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall, and Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Hall) will be Sun.-Thurs. 4 pm-1am, Fri. 6pm-9 pm, and Sat. 2pm-5pm.  Hours at the Ikenberry Commons location in Champaign will be Sun. 4pm-1am, Mon.-Thurs. 8am-1am, Fri. 8am-9pm, and Sat. 2pm-5pm.  Anyone with an I-Card is welcome to check out materials from the Residence Hall Libraries.

None of the other library divisions had met since the June LSSC meeting.

Sharing LSSC Minutes:

We will check with Sandy about making sure that the LSSC minutes are being posted to the G-drive.  Laura will also make monthly requests that the link to the LSSC minutes be included in the forthcoming editions of the online University Library Office Notes.

Next LSSC Meeting:

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11th, in Room 225B of the Main Library.  University Librarian John Wilkin will join us at the beginning of this meeting.
