  • Community-Library Inter-Action (CLIA) http://librariesforpeace.org/clia [Canada, US, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Spain, South Africa, Uganda, India, Qatar]; 28 projects completed with an Iberbibliotecas Grant – partnership with Zoraida Mendiwelso-Bendek (U. -Clara asked committee members for ideas to reach out for additional co-sponsors as the following have already been contacted: iSchool, Center for Global Studies and Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

-Committee members suggested: College of Media/Communications (Leon Dash, Pulitzer Prize winner), European Union Center, Center for Advanced Studies, Illinois State University Library, ALA, University of Illinois Chicago, Independent Media Center in Urbana.

  1. Questions/Announcements/Updates:
  • Committee member Dara Goldman said that she is talking with Kate Williams about the options/possibilities for students to develop their Spanish abilities. Clara said that this has been discussed in the past and it has been left to the students to take Spanish classes to broaden their knowledge.
  • Dara asked about ____ (?) and said that the event is not happening this year due to the COVID-19 health issues nationwide. Clara said that Shannon is developing a handbook on how communities can develop their local libraries and have basic training provided when there is no formal library training involved for those involved.
  • Ellen Moodie asked if L4P has talked about libraries and the control forced upon them across the world, how they are dealing with the coronavirus? Asked if there has been any communication circulated about libraries and the coronavirus epidemic that anyone was/is aware of. Clara said to check out the websites by IFLA and ALA as they have written/posted about this, and information shared about which libraries are open. Clara also said that ASIS&T has an article about the global health crisis as an information crisis is available to read online.
  • Clara ended the questions segment by asking for all to think about ideas regarding Mike Thompson’s future visit and forward those ideas on to her/the group for discussion
