Zotero EZproxy Problem

If you upgraded Firefox to 3.6.x (for example, Firefox version 3.6.8), and agreed to update the Zotero add-on to 2.0.3. This new version of Zotero will automatically detects ezproxy and saves the information.  This is an useful feature, however, it becomes an issue when zotero decides to include the proxy prefix when it is not needed. This causes trouble in two instances:

  1. Zotero adds the proxy prefix to the main library gateway (http://www.library.illinois.edu/) . This creates a loop after the bluestem authentication.
  2. After patron leaves our institution and uses new institution's electronic resources, zotero remembers our ezproxy settings and kicks in whenever it detects journals and databases.

Fix:

  1. Use another browser other than firefox (zotero is only available as an add-on in firefox).
    OR
  2. Remove / Disable ezproxy setting in zotero (Click the 'Z' icon in firefox. Go to the preferences->proxies).  Users also have the option to not save the ezproxy information when it first detects it.
