Illinois History and Lincoln Collections

University of Illinois Library

In the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, you will find art celebrating Abraham Lincoln, including a portrait of Lincoln by Norman Rockwell as well as portrait busts of Lincoln. You will also find the Lincoln ox-yoke. Lincoln may have made this ox-yoke during his New Salem days (1831-1837), according to recollective testimony. The piece came to the University in 1873, and was hung, in turn, in the office of Regent Gregory, in the rotunda of the old library (Altgeld Hall), and on the first floor of our present building. It is now located in the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections in 422 Library.
