Pontiac High School Band Visit

On Friday February 6th, the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music hosted the Pontiac High School Band from Pontiac, IL. Their visit to the archives also included a sectional workshop led by Dr. Kimberly Fleming, Assistant Director of University Bands. Forty students visited the Center and played on our historic instruments, including the Conn contrabass sarrusophone, Martin double bell euphonium, Shuman tenor trombone, and Conn bass saxophone, among many others. The students also learned about the Harmonic Tone Generator, a voltage-controlled synthesizer that was designed by alumnus and faculty member James Beauchamp. This visit by the Pontiac Band was the first of several planned band visits scheduled for the spring semester.
