Spring 2021 :: Primavera 2021

How librarians and libraries have responded to the four wrenching and simultaneous crises of 2020 ::

This semester we are running two tracks of minitalks, one in Spanish, one in English. The Spanish track looks at libraries and their communities in Columbia, Costa Rica, and Peru. For further details on those in spanish, see minicharlas CLIA/CLIA minitalks 2020-21. English language talks are listed below.

After two very practical talks aimed at library students, the English language minitalks focus primarily on the how librarians and libraries have responded to the four wrenching and simultaneous crises of 2020 (and continuing) that we have all had to live through:

  • The covid-19 pandemic
  • Sustained protests against an epidemic of police killings
  • Exploding unemployment, poverty and homelessness
  • The crescendo of “fake news,” social polarization and loss of social trust
