Last month, we bid farewell to overnight Library Specialist Sarah Isaacs. Sarah worked at the Undergraduate Library for six months and has accepted another position outside of the University. We wish her good luck.
Near the main Circulation Desk, the UGL will be installing Digital Signage this Spring. It will include information such as maps, services and events for our patrons. The signage was made possible by funding provided by the Library/IT student fee.
You may have noticed a new checkout station at the lower level of the UGL. This station will be made available for patrons to use in Mid-February. During the Spring semester, students can check out books with this unit. Beginning in late May, this unit will be ready to check out DVDs and games. The UGL is looking forward to using this exciting new service to provide even more convenience for our patrons.
Coming up later this Spring, the UGL will be getting some new laptop collaboration stations. These stations, called Mediascape:Mini, will be located in two of the collaboration rooms. Mediascape:Mini will allow groups of students to plug all of their laptops into a single flat screen display, then switch back and forth by using a single button. Look for Mediascape:Mini stations to appear in the UGL by Spring Break.
This month, the UGL's Main Exhibit focuses on coffee, the friend of many a late-night studier. So, after you grab a cup of morning joe, head on down to the UGL and check out our expressive, espresso-fueled exhibit.
After you see the Coffee exhibit, check out our New Book and New Fiction section to the right of these cases. New books arrive frequently and these books are available for checkout. Don't forget your I-Card!
Also, make sure to see our new DVD display case at the Plaza level of the UGL. Additional exhibits can be found there advertising different types of UGL media.
On Thursday, April 19th at 7-10PM, the UGL will be hosting a Gaming Career Night. Members from the local game company Volition, Inc. will discuss careers in gaming hold a Q & A session with students and will also be available to provide consultation on student work. More details on gaming at the UGL can be found here.
The Partner’s Desk at the UGL provides a space for campus offices to bring their services to students in the Undergrad. This semester several offices are offering hours to students on a weekly basis. The Career Center provides the opportunity for students to have their resumes reviewed and receive answers to their career information questions. An academic advisor from the Division of General Studies assists students with their advising questions and provides information about majors and minors. The Residence Life Librarian affords students the opportunity to learn more about the Residence Hall Libraries and the availability of resources in those libraries available for all students at the University of Illinois. Representatives from the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Relationships seek to share a greater appreciation for diversity and cross cultural engagement on campus. Their offices at the Partner’s Desk this semester include the Native American House, La Casa Cultural Latina, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center.
In addition to the Partners who provide services directly in the Undergrad other campus partners include: the Writers Workshop, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, CITES, McKinley Health Service, and the Office of Study Abroad. Weekly hours for the Partner’s Desk can be found on the Undergraduate Library Calendar.
The Undergraduate Library wishes to thank the following individuals for their donations to further improve the Undergraduate Library:
