Computers and Software
- CITESInstructional Computing Services (ICS) has a computer lab in the northeast corner of the UGL.
- The CITES lab has additional software and a separate printing system.
- Special programs requested for specific classes are usually available at the CITES lab. Contact CITES for more information about the software on their computers.
- The Undergrad Library maintains 64 PCs for walk-up computing.

- All Library PCs print to the printers by the Circulation and Reserves Desk at the front of the upper level.

Loanable Technology
The following equipment is available thanks to funding from the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, with ongoing support from the student Library and IT fees. To check an item out, simply ask at the Circulation and Reserves Desk of the Undergraduate Library, located just inside the entrance to the upper level. Please note that the library is not responsible for damage done to your equipment as a result of any loanable technology.
- RESERVING TECHNOLOGY: One week loanable technology can now be scheduled in advance. The staff at the circulation desk can schedule a contingent booking for you. The booking that we schedule for you is contingent on the previous patron bringing the item back when it is due. We make every effort to get all our technology back on time, but should the technology item not be returned on time, we will be unable to fulfill the booking request. Library staff are able to place a booking for you by email (undergrad@library.illinois.edu) phone (333-3477) or in-person (at the Circulation Desk). Please allow 24 hours for responses to reserve requests by email.
This technology is available for UIUC students, staff, and faculty upon completion of a simple loan agreement form at check out.
No renewals available. $5.00 per day overdue fine.

Printing, Scanning, and Copying
Printing
- You can print from any computer station in the Undegrad, or from any of our laptops. Choose to pay either with your student account using your NetID, or by cash at the Circulation and Reserves Desk.
- You can print to the UGL's printers from your laptop. Click here to download the print client.
- Print in Color! Simply choose the printer "Library COLOR" from the drop down menu on the print screen. Cost is determined by the amount of color ink used per page.
Scanning
- There are 6 scanners attached to computers throughout the upper level. Ask at the Reference Desk for locations.
- Book Scan Station. A walk up scanner is available to use with a jump drive. It is located near the browsing area on the upper level. See more information here:
- Want to scan a document directly to your mobile device? The UGL loans out USB cables to connect your iPod, smart phone, PDA, Camera, or other USB OTG devices.
- USB Micro B Cable Available for 2 hours at a time in the Undergraduate Library. Great for use with the Book Scan Station!
- iPod USB 2.0 Cable Available for 2 hours at a time in the Undergraduate Library. Great for use with the Book Scan Station!
- Universal Mini USB Cable Available for 2 hours at a time in the Undergraduate Library. Great for use with the Book Scan Station!
Copying
- Copiers are located throughout the UGL, on both the upper and lower levels.
- Copiers are only black and white. Color copying is not available in the UGL.
- Copies cost $0.15 a page cash, or $0.08 a page for if you use a copy card or have copying money on your I-card.
- Put copying money on your I-card or get a copy card at the machine near the Collaboratories on the Upper Level.

Problem Solving
Sometimes, technology does not work the way you want it to. For help with library items, see the UGL staff. If you run into problems on your own computer, try the CITES Help Desk.
Known problem with some USB drives
- Most USB drives will work fine on library computers. If you do have a USB drive that uses "U3" software, you will get an error when you insert it in a library computer. This page details some work-arounds for this problem.
