Information Desk
The Information Desk is one of
the many specialized services offered by the University of Illinois Library. It is located on the
second floor of the Main Library building and serves as a central information point within the
University of Illinois Library System. Personnel at the Desk provide library users with instruction
in use of online resources, card catalog assistance, ready reference service, and directional
assistance. In-person, telephone,
email and
chat and IM services are available.

- General research assistance and referrals to subject specialist librarians
- Assistance & instruction finding book, articles, and other research materials
- Assistance with Government Information resources
- Information on remote access to the online catalog and article databases
- Ready reference assistance using titles available at the Information Desk (e.g., journal
abbreviations, phone numbers)
- Self-guided mp3 and downloadable tours of the Main and Undergraduate Libraries (more information)
Special Resources
- Library brochures, campus and library maps, and bus schedules
- University of Illinois Supplement to the Minutes of the Board of Trustees, Academic Personnel
(i.e. the Salary Book)
