Reserve a Room in the IDEA Lab

Use the links below to learn about and reserve a space. Patrons who reserve a space must be physically present and check in at the IDEA Lab Help Desk with their i-Card or Illinois app. To keep our technology and space clean, covered drinks are allowed in specific locations, but never near high-tech equipment. No food is allowed in the IDEA Lab.

The following spaces are available for same-day reservations:


The Pitch Room (0001)

  • Room capacity: 2-10 people
  • Features: 84” wall-mounted display with A/V support equipment
  • The Pitch Room is suitable for medium-size group presentations

Innovator Design Rooms (002-007)

  • Features: One whiteboard and one table-mounted 42” display with wireless connection
  • The Innovator Design Rooms are suitable for small group projects

3D Design Lab (000E)

  • Room capacity: 1-3 people per seat (workstation)
  • Features: VR equipment and design software (e.g., Unreal and Unity Engines).
  • The 3D Design Lab is suitable for individual or small group projects

  • Patrons can request specific software in form
  • Assistive tech is available for checkout and in-lab use
  • Reservations closed during Open Gaming weekends
  • Reservations are for individual seats within the lab rather than the entire room

Game Studies & Design Lab (000I)

  • Room capacity: 4-12 people
  • Features: Consoles: PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, wall comprised of four 55″ 8K resolution monitors with attached workstation, two 65″ mobile touchscreen monitors with attached workstations and gaming consoles
  • The Game Studies and Design Lab is suitable for play testing, gameplay, and development of gaming concepts, systems and entertainment

  • First-come, first-served during Open Gaming weekends
  • Bring your own games or borrow from the IDEA Lab or the Grainger Library first floor
  • Check out gaming accessories from the IDEA Lab including Joycons, pro controllers, and up to 2 PlayStation DualSense wireless controllers

Immersive Learning Lab (000J)

  • Room capacity: 1 person per seat (workstation)
  • Features: VR equipment, game clients, and design software (e.g., Unreal and Unity Engines), instructor station casts to two 84” wall-mounted displays
  • The Immersive Learning Lab is suitable for individual or large group reservations for workshops, course labs, and more

Details:

  • Patrons can request specific software in form
  • Assistive tech is available for checkout and in-lab use
  • Campus members reserve individual seats within the lab rather than the entire room
  • Space hosts RSO lab technology activities and events with VR Club at UIUC and Illini Esports



  • Available Saturdays and Sundays during walk-in hours: 1PM to 10PM
  • IDEA Lab provides PC workstations with the following pre-installed game clients: Steam, Battlenet, Meta Horizon Link, Eipc Game Store, Riot Client
  • Patrons will login into their own accounts
  • Seating is limited and based on a first-come first-served basis; no reservations
  • Technology support is not available; Please inform the IDEA Lab Help Desk of any tech issues

Visualization Theater (000K)

  • Room capacity: 12-15 people
  • Features: Wall comprised of sixteen 46” 8K resolution monitors equipped with teleconferencing devices and JBL studio monitor speakers, lounge seating with attached desks
  • The Visualization Theater is suitable for large group presentation and viewing of educational or academic audio/video content

Details:

  • Presenter workstation for educational purposes and only available during reservations
  • During unreserved periods, the Theater is open as a Curated Study Space with first-come, first-served seating
