Call Numbers in SSHEL

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign uses multiple classification systems to organize library materials by call number. The Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library (SSHEL) uses the Dewey Decimal Classification system and the Library of Congress Classification system. These classification systems are used to create call numbers, which are a combination of numbers and letters that provide a unique description of each item in a library collection. Call numbers help you locate a specific book on the library shelves. Additionally, if you have an item that is particularly helpful to your research, browsing material with similar call numbers or browsing items beside the item on a shelf will help you find additional relevant material. [     ] Brackets indicate that responsibility for collecting the subject is shared with another library.
