Graduate Hourly – Music Cataloging – Acquisitions and Cataloging Services (ACS)

Graduate Hourly positions are open to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Graduate Students only.

Unit: Acquisitions and Cataloging Services

Location: Music and Performing Arts Library, 1114 W Nevada St #1300, Urbana, IL 61801

Supervisor: Elena Negruta, Senior Library Specialist

Number of Openings: 1

Hours per week anticipated: 10

Hourly Rate: $24.00

Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2026

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated: Fall 2026-Spring 2027, with potential to continue employment for consecutive academic term(s).

Summary
Catalog music materials, including music scores and sound recordings, for the Music and Performing Arts Library.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Perform copy and original cataloging for a range of formats, including music scores, books, and sound recordings. Assign call numbers according to national standards and local practices.
  • Participate in special cataloging projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Enrolled as Graduate Student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the Academic Terms of Employment listed above
  • Experience with classical music as an instrumentalist or vocalist
  • Ability to read musical notation
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a language other than English, preferably French, Italian, or German
  • Experience working in a library
  • Experience cataloging
  • Enrolled in the School of Information Sciences Master’s program for Library and Information Sciences (MSLIS)
