This initiative created an innovative ecosystem for more effective scholarly communication by fostering interplay among humanities scholars, a broad spectrum of support, and research in digital scholarship. It built upon and extended a range of Mellon investments to “incorporate digital practices into the publication and dissemination of scholarship in the humanities, and ensure its dissemination to the broadest possible audience” by “help[ing] humanities scholars and their publications participate more fully in the open Web,” to enables works of digital scholarship to flow from universities to presses, beginning with institutional support to facilitate the creation of online works as an active component of the research and publication process.
