The lllinois Digital Heritage Hub (IDHH) will build engagement and outreach programs over the next two years. During the first phase of the project, the IDHH built stable workflows for on-boarding new members, including: metadata harvesting, assessment, and ingestion. During the second phase, the IDHH developed its web presence by creating a webpage and the IDHH Highlight blog. As of August 1, 2020, the IDHH ingested more than 380,000 items contributed by 140+ cultural institutions in Illinois. The next phase of the IDHH project will focus on improving the use of IDHH’s unique digital assets by building a robust and forward-thinking user engagement and outreach program. Three areas of focus will be: (1) creating exhibitions and primary source sets to promote IDHH resources and engage with publics, educators and students, (2) spearheading and supporting outreach programs, and (3) publishing IDHH resources in Wikimedia by updating current rights statements with URIs as recommended by DPLA. We believe that these activities will not only make IDHH’s web presence strong but also improve the use of IDHH’s digital assets in teaching and research.
