One of the gems of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Library System, the Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML) collections span from books printed before 1501 to Twentieth-century fine press titles.
Notably strong and recognized worldwide are the library's collections in Shakespeare, Milton, emblem books, the Spanish Golden Age, history of science, incunabula, Charles Dickens and Mark Twain.
The library is a depository for early manuscripts, of which there are more than 7,130 linear feet. Rare books and literary manuscripts of particular interest include the manuscripts of Marcel Proust and Carl Sandburg.
Anyone wishing to view the materials in the collection may do so.
