    New Student Tours

    You have several library tour options available to you:

    Take a tour of the Main Library and the Library Gateway! During the tour, attendees will learn about the services provided by the Undergraduate Library, visit departmental libraries and the 'stacks' as well as take a tour of virtual library services via the Library Gateway.     Multilingual Tours

    Come learn more about the library in a different language. This year, we held library tours held in Chinese, Korean, French, Spanish, Croatian, Serbian, Swahili and Russian. For upcoming schedule information, please see: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/ugl/diversity/outreach.html. Multilingual tours will be held Fall 2010.

    All tours will begin in the Marshall Gallery of the Main Library (Entrance across for the Undergraduate Library). Please contact Emily Love elove@illinois.edu if you have any questions.

    Self-Guided Audio Tours

    Audio tours of the Main Library are available at the Information Desk on the second floor of the Main Library at the Information Services Desk. The mp3 players may be charged out by university students, faculty, and staff with a University ID. All others who wish to take this tour must leave a driver's license or other form of identification. The self-guided tours are designed for use by individuals. For more information, please contact the Reference, Research and Government Information Services at 217-333-2290. 

    Cell Phone Tour

    Have you ever wondered about the stained-glass windows in the Reference Room? Or wanted directions for using the moving shelves in the Undergraduate Library? Now these answers are available 24/7 from your cell phone!

    Look for signs posted throughout the Main and Undergraduate Libraries with some of our frequently asked questions, and then call (217) 244-9444 for the answer. This is a free service, but standard calling charges will apply.     Group Tours

    To arrange a group tour:

    • For faculty and teaching assistants who would like to request a tour of the Main Library for their class, please contact Merinda Hensley, Instructional Services Librarian, or call 217-244-1880.
    • Tours of the Main Stacks, please contact Mary Burkee, Central Access Services at burkee@illinois.edu. Please allow two weeks planning time.
    • Tours of the library for community or alumni groups may be arranged by calling the Library Friends Office at 217-333-5682.
    • Those requesting a tour of the Undergraduate Library and school groups wishing to tour the library should contact Susan Avery, Coordinator of Instructional Services in the Undergraduate Library, 217-244-3769.
