Database Searching Tips

If you perform a search and aren’t getting the results you were hoping for, here are some tips you can try to revise your search!

  • When searching for information related to a specific film:
    • Try putting the film’s title in quotation marks if the title is more than one word in length. For example, “King of Jazz”
    • Try searching for the title of the film along with the names of any actors, directors, producers, etc. that are associated with the film. Names are often more unique than the film’s title and can help you find more relevant results!
  • Use the database’s date filters! Most film databases contain information from after 1940, so filtering your results to the date range you want will help you find more relevant results.
