Think Globally, Act Globally China-US Librarian Collaboration

Call for Presenters in China for March & May 2010

The IMLS “Think Globally, Act Globally” China-U.S. Librarian Collaboration Grant Project is seeking ten presenters for two Professional Development Programs in China in 2010 as following:

  • March 20th - 30th, at Chengdu and Chongqing
  • May 10th - 20th, at Tianjin and Shandong

 The application deadline is Dec. 07, 2009.

Presentation Topics:

  1. Laws, policies, and strategic plans of U.S. libraries
  2. Library management and operational mechanisms
  3. Public library services
  4. Library assessment and librarians’ professional development, promotion and evaluation system
  5. Public relations activities and their values
  6. Academic libraries, special libraries, library education, and professional organizations in the U.S.

Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited MLS degree or its equivalent is required;
  • Experience in making presentations is required;
  • A minimum of three years of post-MLS professional working experience in a field of library services in the U.S. is preferred;
  • Public library experience or experience with public services is preferred;
  • CALA membership is preferred; CALA members will be given first priority for speaker positions;
  • PowerPoint presentations must be in both Chinese and English.

Benefits:

  • Speakers will have their travel arranged by the University of Illinois and the travel and lodging costs are covered by the Grant agreement;
  • Will receive $1,000 honorarium;
  • Opportunity to interact with Chinese colleagues.

  • A cover letter, including a statement of your expertise and qualifications, and which of the topics above (#1-6, and you may choose more than one) you would like to present on, and why you would be the best candidate to present on that topic(s);
  • Your current resume/CV;
  • Example(s) of previous presentation(s).

Deadlines:

Please apply by December 7th, 2009. Selected presenters will be notified by Dec. 23. All selected presenters are required to attend a half day training during the ALA Midwinter.
