September 2011 Program in the U.S.

Four Chinese library directors and IT managers participate in the Professional Development Program in the US from September 7th to September 28th, 2011.

  • Visit UIUC campus for two weeks meeting IT professionals in the library as well as other campus units;
  • Visit Chicago for 4 days taking tours in Chicago Public library, University of Illinois at Chicago library as well as other local libraries;
  • Visit OCLC for 3 days for overviewing OCLC and meeting library professionals;
  • Visiting Queens Library in New York City

Deputy Librarian
Suzhou Library
Mr. Wang is the deputy librarian of Suzhou Library. He has been working here for 27 years alternating in: Science & Technology Dept., Acquisition & Cataloging Dept., Ancient Books Dept., Tutorship Dept., IT Dept. and so on. Therefore, he is quite familiar with the whole library. During the construction process of new Suzhou Library, he not only participated in the new library's construction, but also took all the ELV Project's design based on user requirements. Since he served as Technical Director from 1996, he had shifted the work and research focus to library Automation. He is now mainly engaged in the library automation work. The library always focuses on applying new technologies. Furthermore, the Digital Resources Construction is also the focus of the library. On one hand, the library have completed the meta-data solutions and prepared a long-term strategic plan of the public libraries' digital resources construction in Suzhou. On the other hand, the library has developed the Ancient Books Digitization System and the full-text database which contains 282 History and Local Chronicles of Suzhou. It is not only easy to use, but also a good way to preserve these precious cultural relics.

Liang GujiaLiang, Gujia
Deputy Director of IT Department Suzhou Library

Mr. Liang is the deputy director of IT department in Suzhou Library. He is now mainly working on the library database maintenance and updating, software application development, assists director to manage the whole library.

Wang Xuelian Wang, Xuelian
Assistant Director
Northeast Normal University Library

Ms. Wang is Assistant Director in Northeast Normal University library. She has been working here for 12years alternating in: Cataloging Dept, Northeast document Dept, Reference Dept, Jing Yue Library, Director office. Now, she is responsible for both professional work and administrative management of the whole library.

Zhou Li Zhou, Li
Director of Digital Division
Northeast Normal University Library
Ms. zhou is the director of Digital department in NENU Library. She is now mainly working on building Institutional repositories, the special database maintenance and updating, choosing the software for Remote Access.
