Examining the News

Thanks for participating in the Global News VILLAGE

You have finished the third and final module of the Global News VILLAGE.

In this module we have introduced you to some strategies for understanding the perspective from which a particular news article is written. We have suggested you may want to consider:

  1. What country a news article came from, and what audience was being addressed
  2. How the political situation in a country can affect the news
  3. How the economics of the media can affect the news
  4. How examining the sources cited within a news article can help you understand the perspective it reflects.

These are only a few of the strategies you can use—maybe you’ve thought of others.

We hope we have provided you with some important skills that will make it easier for you to incorporate the perspectives of people from a wide range of geographic locations, experiences, and cultures into your understanding of current events.
