Developing Strong University Libraries in Nigeria: A Report for the MacArthur
Foundation
This report documents the accomplishments and challenges facing four university libraries in
Nigeria, all of which are MacArthur Foundation grantees. The assessments were made by staff members
of the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs during a visit to Nigeria in 2005. The
university libraries are: Bayero University Library, Kano; Ahmadu Bello University Library, Zaria;
University of Ibadan Library, Ibadan; and the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt.
